Inini-Ikwe (Man-Woman) is an experiment in reconstructed portraiture. Four 16×20″ silver gelatin prints were hand-cut and reassembled by weaving the horizontal strips of one portrait with the vertical strips of the other. The exchange softened the man’s features while maturing the face of the young girl and created the impression of relationship. In fact, the two had never met and come from different Native American Nations.
